Illini Drumline Clinic Learn
to Drum Like The Illini! Come
join the Marching Illini Drumline for a full-day, hands-on drum camp.
Learn from the best at this interactive clinic located on the University
of Illinois campus. Snares and Tenors will get group instruction and
private lessons on technique, rudiments, practice skills, and all aspects
of marching percussion. Illini warmups and cadences will be provided
and taught.
The clinic is primarily intended for students age 14+ who are ready to work hard and advance quickly in an intense Illini learning experience. Students will need to bring their own drum, drum stand, carrier, and sticks. Participant Fee: $60 includes all instruction, music, and lunch. Instructors: Students will get personalized instruction from some of the best performers and teachers in marching percussion. Instructors include current members and alumni of the Illini Drumline, and current and former marching members of several top Drum and Bugle Corps such as The Cavaliers. Clinic Schedule: 8:30a -- Register 9a -- Introduction, meet staff, divide into small groups organized by instrument and skill level. Morning Instruction -- Work in small groups of like instruments to learn technique, timing, and basic drumming skills. Learn Illini Drumline warmups. 12n -- Lunch (included with clinic). Question and answer period with Illini Drumline. Meet Drumline members. Afternoon Instruction -- Snares flams and rolls. Tenors multi-drum motion. As skills progress snares will work on hybrids, tenors flams and rolls, and other advanced concepts will be presented as the students progress. Students will learn Illini Drumline cadences. 4:00 -- Perform for parents and other students. Preseason exhibition by the Illini Drumline. 5p -- Summary and dismissal. A casual morning orientation session for parents will be held at 9:30 and a clinic performance is scheduled for 4:00p. Students will have adult supervision throughout the clinic.
